Our pick your own asparagus season runs from late April until the 21st June, the longest day. Depending on the age of the crown, you will get thinner or thicker asparagus but it’s up to you which type you pick.
When picking asparagus, there is no need for a knife, you just simply snap it at ground level (don’t forget you’ll chop the end of before cooking). That’s all there is to it!
Once picked, you can store asparagus as you would flowers in a glass of water in the fridge to keep them fresher for longer. Just make sure you cut off the ends before doing so and change the water if it gets cloudy.
Asparagus tastes best fresh with some seasoning and butter but we still love it in a quiche or omelette, added to risotto or cooked in pancetta with eggs and hollandaise!
Did you know asparagus can grow up to 13cm a day?
